  1. Avatar of Matt Matt says:

Ha! I had to laugh out loud when I read this. However, this is a good idea, especially for Ragbrai. I always wonder though, what about the people who need an AA type of group, but are not religious. I would imagine that alcoholism is not limited to people who believe in a god.

  2. Dana says:

since when does a belief in god mean you are religious???

  3. Andy says:

It’ll be nice to meet some friends – I’m looking forward to it!!

One questions for those who have been before, I noticed that on one night is says “Dinner will not be served.” Does that mean that dinner is normally served or available at these meetings?

  4. Dan says:

I agree with Dana, believing in God does not mean your religious. The word religious is way to over stated and makes people use it in a bad way. you get the image of Bible thumpers or people who push and threaten you to get you to believe. Believing in God is more of a relationship. A relationship with God through his son Jesus Christ. I attest that I have a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. I believe in Jesus Christ as my Savior and Lord. I do not push this off on others, unless they want to talk about it, then I am happy to share with them. But I am not afraid to let people know that I live my life with Jesus Christ in my heart and sole.

  5. Andrew says:

AA is a spiritual not religious program. It is Suggested that you get a Higher Power to help maintain abstinence and growth, HOWEVER, that power is entirely up to an individual’s choice. It could be Jesus, Allah, the ocean, friends, or anything else that is loving, caring, and bigger than oneself.

  6. Rollin' RAGBRAI Rider says:

The Rollin’ RAGBRAI AA group has from 50 to 80 folks at a meeting each night. It meets every night for a week, once a year.

They are open meetings–you don’t have to be an alcoholic to attend. (Alanon, NA and other 12 step recovery groups are welcome.) The RAGBRAI staff assists in having the overnight towns identify meetings for about 18 years now and that is much appreciated.

And to Matt: “God as you understand God” is the way program people work with a higher power. “You are born in the spirit and taught religion.”

  7. Steve says:

How can we update this list? There will be a Storm Lake meeting.
