RAGBRAI 2012: Flying down the road and, boy, are their arms tired.
Wed, Jul 25, 2012 | by Michael Morain
ShareKamrar – A dozen RAGBRAI riders from Adaptive Sports Iowa stopped for a shady break here before pumping down the road on their arm-powered bikes. The group is a mix of people without the use of their legs and able-bodied riders who are there to support them (and get a killer upper-body workout).
Team member Jack Eherenman of Waterloo got interested in adaptive sports thanks to a couple of disabled sons, including one who was born with spina bifida who became a track star in high school (shot put, discus, racing). Eherenman runs an adaptive sports camp at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls and leads the Iowa Chariots, a National Wheelchair Basketball team.
Here he is in the foreground:

Great job guys! Having participated in RAGBRAI two years ago on my hand cycle my appreciation of your effort and envy of the fun goes out to you.
Have a great time hope to see you next year.

Everytime I saw those doing the ride without legs I admired them and stopped thinking how hard the ride was……for a few minutes! Thanks.
