RAGBRAI 2012: Olympic trials in Kamrar

Kamrar — There may be some last-minute additions to the U.S. Olympic Team in London, judging from the athletic skills on display here this morning. The owners of Pickles Pub set up an obstacle course and recruited RAGBRAI riders to give it their best shot.

Participants raced one-on-one to carry an open, full bottle of water on a serving tray through a tire course, under a tractor-tire hoop and around two traffic cones in a figure 8. Then they had to find three numbered rubber ducks in a water-filled canoe and then return to the starting line to fill a jar with whatever water remained in the bottle.

RAGBRAI rider Ryan England, 21, of Diagonal, Ia., pulled a tight victory from the clutches of his friend Daniel Leonard, also 21, of Clearfield.

“I’d like to thank my sponsors,” England said, clearly accustomed to such high-stakes competition. He received a trophy Pickle Whistle from the pub – and a withering look from Leonard.
