Iowa C.O.P.S. Team Awarded RAGBRAI Rider Cup

The Iowa Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) bike team was awarded the prestigious RAGBRAI Rider Cup this weekend at the RAGBRAI Route Announcement Party.  For the past twenty five years, the Rider Cup Award has been presented to the club or team that best promotes the RIDE RIGHT philosophy before and during RAGBRAI.

The Iowa Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) bike team rides for those who died.  For the mothers, fathers, husband, wives, sons, and daughters who put on the uniform to protect their community and never made it back home.  It is the goal of the bike team to raise awareness and funds to support the mission of the Iowa C.O.P.S. organization ensuring that the sacrifice these officers made is never forgotten and that their survivors and affected co-workers are supported.

The Iowa C.O.P.S. bike team is made up of riders from the law enforcement community including state troopers, special agents, county deputies, local city officers, dispatchers, first responders, and their families alongside the survivors of the officers we ride to honor.

The team’s jersey is designed to pay respect to all officers that gave their life protecting their community as each rider carries a flag displaying the name and picture of an individual officer.  The team meets with survivors and visits memorials along the route while sharing these officers stories to ensurer they will never be forgotten.  Following the ride, these flags are presented to the survivors or the officer’s department in memoriam.

Since the formation of the team in 2012, flags have been carried to individually honor over 50 of the 184 Iowa officers that have died in the line of duty along with officers from across the county while honoring all fallen officers and raising thousands of dollars to support the mission of Iowa C.O.P.S.

A huge thanks to the IOWA C.O.P.S team for being part of RAGBRAI!

Congratulations to the IOWA C.O.P.S. Team on winning the 2016 Rider Cup!
