For the past twenty years, the Rider Cup Award has been presented to the club or team that best promotes the RIDE RIGHT philosophy before and during RAGBRAI. The Rider Cup will be presented to Team Cuisine at the RAGBRAI Route Announcement Party on Saturday, January 28, 2012 in Des Moines.
The RIDE RIGHT Community Award is presented each year to the town that best promoted bicycle safety events and improved the safety level for riders in their community before and during RAGBRAI. Carroll really went all out for visiting cyclists in an effort to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all.

We received a letter from a city official in Mitchellville (the first stop after Altoona on Thursday on the way to Grinnell) that their welcome sign is missing. It will cost the city approximately $1,200 to replace this sign. This is not the type of behavior that RAGBRAI is known for. We would appreciate the swift return of the sign, no questions asked.

St. Peters, 69, of Spencer, has about 30 years on me – but also [...]
Most ice cream parlors don’t have a bouncer. But the Candy Kitchen in Wilton isn’t like most ice cream parlors. Connie Hoekstra kept an eye on the door, keeping the RAGBRAI hordes from herding inside, where owners George and Thelma Nopoulos scooped up caramel sundaes and chocolate malts. He is 91. She is 79. And they’ve [...]
Davenport — For all the concern about traffic, crowds and water, the final day of RAGBRAI seemed to end on a high note as thousands of riders rolled into Davenport and were met by thousands more runners. Riders, runners and Davenport residents alike had expressed concert about what would happen when the RAGBRAI riders and [...]
Durant — Polka Bear greeted riders in Durant while a two-man Polka band played just beyond. Riders slapped the brown bear’s hand as they rode by on their way to food stands and pie. Polka Bear has been a symbol of Durant for 38 years, since the town’s first Polka Festival in 1973. That festival [...]
