One of the common questions I receive has to do with hill training, especially from people who live where there are no hills. Imagine that – there are places that are flatter than Iowa! For those of us who live and ride here, or for those of you who have done RAGBRAI before, you know that Iowa has hills.

On Wednesday, April 18th, my Grandpa passed away. He had cancer and also suffered from Alzheimer's, and after 5 years of fighting, it was time for him to done with that battle. Even in the last few months of his life, my Grandpa's fondest memories that he shared were so often those memories from RAGBRAI. And even when he couldn't remember what he had done an hour before, he could still remember specific details about most of the pass through towns in Iowa that he'd even gone through.

The Iowa Bicycle Coalition is merging the popular Iowa Goes By Bicycle Challenge with the newly created National Bicycle Challenge to encourage more people to ride bicycles. The Iowa Challenge will be given new online tools allowing more competition between individuals, workplaces, communities, and states.
Join Mayor Cownie and the Dream Team on this fun bike ride and experience Des Moines as you ride through area Neighborhoods and raise money for recreational trails. All proceeds from this event support Des Moines’ recreational trails. Over the last 10 years this ride has raised over $100,000 for improvements to Des Moines trails!
