Friday, January 25 and Saturday, January 26, 2013
Iowa Events Center in Downtown Des Moines
If you haven’t attended the Iowa Bicycle Summit & Expo yet, this is the year to circle January 25 & 26 on your calendar now. The 2013 event promises to be better than ever before with more vendor exhibits, free advocacy workshops, and new trail building sessions.
The Iowa Bicycle Summit will again feature a consumer bicycle expo on Saturday, January 26 free to the public. More than 60 exhibitors were there last year to show the latest in new bicycle gear, training, trails, and events. A large group of destination exhibitors are expected to attend. “If you want to plan your summer bicycling vacation, you need to visit all of the trails displayed at the event,” states Mark Wyatt, Executive Director of the IBC. The Summit will again join forces with RAGBRAI’s RIDE RIGHT safety meeting and will conclude with the announcement of the 2013 RAGBRAI Route that evening.
The Iowa Bicycle Summit is the education conference that trains engineers, community officials, and advocates on how to build better bicycle facilities. This year the Iowa Bicycle Summit will focus on the new AASHTO Bike Guide. Training will be provided by Tom Huber from Toole Design and Arthur Ross from the City of Madison, Wisconsin.
In addition, there will concurrent sessions on trails and trail design. Finally, the Iowa Bicycle Summit will have a new session on funding. The session will be similar to speed dating, where participants will have the opportunity to meet in small groups with funding coordinators.
The Iowa Bicycle Summit is the must-attend workshop if your community is building, designing, or planning a trail or bike lane or more bicycle facilities
