I’m going to Some Iowa city,
Some Iowa city here I come
Well, I might take a plane I might take a train
But if I have to ride I’m going just the same
Missed this year, I am all in for next year!

Beebs, you may be in luck, our team has a secret revirgination process. It is not expensive but there are some costs for beverage replenishment. Keep training.
Mich, I found the three pounds you lost. I will mail them to your PO Box in Rabbit Hash.
Susie, you have the spirit!!! I vowed my first one was to be my last one too. Go girl.
Mike, you and others like you are an inspiration to me.

I brought three new people this time (the San Francisco Beats) and they all had the time of their lives. Next time we are thinking about trying to get houses along the way to stay out of the sun (we are not used to the heat) and perhaps eat a little better. But it was as profound and moving experience as it was last year. We are not the rowdy sort so we don’t come for the beer or the parties but more for the beauty of the rides, the folks we meet, the experience of the small towns of Iowa, and just the intensity of the seven day adventure.

It would not be an official RAGBRAI without Buszilla, Team Brewhaha and the crew. Be sure to bring Papa T next year. He was missed.

I am in, 2013 here i come, I am sure I will be able to make a reality show out of training, getting the days off work, money to go, bike that will do the ride without breaking. And all of the other stupid stuff that can happen in the coming year.
I am a Virgin to the ride, I am from Iowa (Quasqueton) have lived in Missouri for more years than the 19 I spend on the farm. I really hope to connect with the people from my home state. I have a large family there and several ride. I hope i can get a day or two in with them. I want to ride it all fast or slow it does not matter, it is the miles that are more important and the places and new friends. If I survive to the wheel dip in the Mississippi it will be my happy 50th birthday present.
So if you see one of the Ham Radio riders with a classic touring bike from Missouri, I made it. I made all of the stuff work and i will be livin the dream.

In January of this year I was diagnosed with colon cancer stage three.I had already registered for the ride and had to make the decision whether or not I could make it this year.Well I decided that my goal would be to ride.As of July I had zero miles due to the chemo downsides. However with sixteen miles under my belt by the week before the ride I decided to make it work.My good friend said that if I could do it so could he.This was my eight ride and I knew what was ahead. The great people of Iowa along with the passion of the small towns who welcomed us made the struggle worth all the pain.Had it not been for Ragbrai this year I would still be at home feeling sorry for myself. Today is my last chemo and yes I will be back next year.I can’t wait!
A hearty salute to Mike and others like him, who take a week off from chemo, or are rebuilding from heart surgery, or obesity or deep dark caves of depression.
I’ll be there.

My hats off to mikefpt. What a great story of human perserverance and desire. I talked to a couple on RAGBRAI who were riding a tandem because the husband had been in an accident shortly before RAGBRAI had begun. He had a bad injury so they chose to ride a tandem so he would be able to do the ride. If I remember right, I think he had a broken collar bone or a seperated shoulder. Can’t remember which. In any case, these stories made me put the little things like hard tires, seat rash, head wind, and hills way down on my “things to whine about” list.

I stifled the whine every time I looked at the hand cranked bikers, the one legged woman, the blind black woman on the back of the tandem with the white woman in front and describing what they were passing.
We are so fortunate to have the opportunity to ride RAGBRAI and to be able to help others along the way. We are fortunate to have the ability to ride the distance every day. Some don’t and I’ll ride behind and push people up hills any day.
