One issue that always happens when +10k riders show up in a small town is the cellular gets overwhelmed making our phones basically worthless for data. I found a free offline map program if you”re like me and like to know where you are.
After you install CityMaps2Go, the maps you want to search and download for RAGBRAI XLI are:
Pottawattamie County (Council Bluffs)
Shelby County (Harlan)
Dallas County (Perry)
Polk County (Des Moines)
Marion County (Knoxville)
Mahaska County (Oskaloosa
Jefferson County (Fairfield)
Lee County (Fort Madison)

Thanks! Good idea. Yup, cell service can be almost non-existent in some of the smaller towns and if you need maps using your smart phone, you might be out of luck.

RAGBRAI gives you free maps. The route is marked. And on top of that, there are something like 15K riders all going the same way. Who needs a smartphone map app?

I check my maps on my iphone regularly. We check to see how many miles to the next town and then determine how long of a stop it will be.

There are quite a few parties at night that are “off route”, many times in another town 2-10 miles outside the overnight town. It helps to have more than just the RAGBRAI maps.

sounded like a RAGBRAI app should roll out May 1st after the pass through towns are announced.

I usually use MapsWithMe app)
It works offline as well and is really fast.
BTW it has all the cities and countries inside
CityMaps2Go is ok but doesn’t have all the roads in the country and include only big cities.
