Well, since I won’t be returning to Iowa this year, it’s not too early to think about the 2014 route. I’m guessing Onawa to Guttenburg. Hawarden has not been used lately as the start town but it’s just too close to Sioux Center (2012) so the early favorite – to me – is Onawa.
True, Ed, your first ride is a sizeable undertaking in every aspect from funds, training, logistics, etc., along with a certain level of uncertainty but you’ll find it was all worth it. You going to have the time of your life. Just think… in less than 60 days you’ll find your yourself at Ragbrai EXPO on that certain Saturday. You have set up camp, you’ll have test-ridden your bike, you’ll have had a great supper, a couple of great craft beers, perhaps, and then… you’ll look up at a fading, aqua-blue Iowa sky and contemplate the enormity of the week that lies ahead!
“and I am sad over the fact that I may not be able to do another RAGBRAI for a while. I need to win Powerball so I can quit my job. :-(”
OK, Ed; you win the Powerball; just remember who your friends are if I come around to ask you for a couple hundred to help pay my way on the ride. Deal? -”BB”-
I’d make those reservations for Hawarden, Sibley, Esterville, Algona, Mason City, New Hampton, Decorah and Marquette. Yep a real north route. I know, a lot will say Marquette too small but Sabula managed it, and a lot will probably pack it up at Decorah or the meeting town Waukon.
