Has anyone used a Verizon MiFi on Ragbrai? Is it even worth bringing along? I want to post pictures and blog along the route and was wondering what I could expect on reception or speed. If not I will just plan on hooking up to WiFi whenever I can. (support driver)

I’ve used mine the past two years and have experienced very good results between 8:00 pm and 8:00 am

That’s a good idea. Non prime hours it probably will work fine. Any idea how much data one might go through for a week of Ragbrai? I can always post small pics or post the pics when theirs’ wifi to keep the data from getting out of control. I’m guessing 4G where available.

So far, the only markets with VZW 4G LTE coverage in Iowa are Sioux City, Des Moines, Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, and the Quad Cities area. Even if you have a 4G Jetpack, expect your coverage to be only at 3G speeds if/when you are able to use the device.

Bicycle Bill, I kind of expected that. 4G LTE is still rolling out and Ragbrai over taxes most wireless systems, but thanks anyway.

I have a 5 gig monthly contract and have posted plenty of pics from a family vacation and never come close to using it all. I’ve also used to for live streaming video’s for my son and never come close to the 5k.
