Are there any trike groups/teams out there? I am from SE central Iowa and would like to join up.
I was thinking of creating and team. And for those of you that saw me last year they would know what I am talking about. But I was thinking of using my swim noddle sign as the name of the team.
Wide load.
For those that didnt see it. I had a yellow swim noddle placed crossways across the rear of my seat and had Wide load written on it. I had gotten alot of comments on it and I thought it went over pretty well.
Not sure I would be willing to lead a team but I thought it would be a good team name for recumbent trikes. Because we are so much wider that normal bike I thought it was fitting.
I am in eastern Iowa and would like to see the Idea grow.

I like the idea,,, I thought about doing something like that, if nothing else for safety purposes………..

That is why I had orginally done it. So when It came time for the ride I left it on and put the wide load on.
Seen on BikeHacks.com. Nothing more than a 3-foot yardstick and some paint:
That’s the polite version. Here’s the more militant, in-your-face variety:

Here is a way to start a debate. Measure the widest part of your recumbent and then measure the widest part of a bike. It’s amazing how recumbents are soooo much wider. ..:) let the games begin…… I love the 3 ft measurement, but afraid I would only become a target for motorists.
I ride several types of recumbents. one of which is a trike. I find drivers give me far more space when I am on my trike as I am so low they must move way over to the left just to keep me in sight through their side windows.
I saw some recumbent riders banding together the first few days of the ride, and appealing for more members during the week. By the time they got to Altoona they were doing breakfast and group pictures together.
I’m coming from California for my first Ragbrai, and I’ll be riding my recumbent trike. I’m also looking for a group to join and/or ride with!

I’ll be riding my velomobile. it is only 30 inches wide at the widest but it’s 9 feet long. So it looks wider than it is unless you are directly behind it. That’s narrower than some uprights, I think.
As I put in another topic, I will be riding my 1st Ragbrai this year alone, on a recumbent trike. This is great already,, finding others with the same interest. We are all going to have to possibly meet sometime or maybe group up and do some riding… I am in!!….
I don’t have a trike, just recumbents. I’ll be glad to ride along with you guys however, if you’re willing to put up with the fact that I’m handicapped by the fact that I only have 2 wheels, and tend to fall over when I stop unless I put a foot down.
