Ever ridden past the Field of Dreams on RAGBRAI? Ever wanted to do it again? Better do it this year then, because the clock is ticking on what is arguably the most famous baseball field in the world.
“Go The Distance LLC” is a development group including Wade Boggs (yes, THAT Wade Boggs) that has purchased the Lansing farm, site of the Field of Dreams, for $3.4 million dollars. Their intention is to create a baseball complex consisting of 12 diamonds (with plans to eventually increase that to 24) and a 60-team clubhouse on the site in time for the 2014 ‘tournament season’.
In small syllables, this sucks!! And while it is probably already a done deal, there is a petition at change.org (couldn’t post the link; go to the site and search for “Field of Dreams) urging “Go The Distance LLC” to relocate their proposed complex to a more suitable location and leave the Field in its iconic state. I urge everyone here to go there and add their names.
Really don’t think it is that famous of a field, as it was just a movie, and not that good either, I mean, everyone can see this “ghost player of the past” and nobody has a problem with that. Movie ends with an aerial shot of miles of cars of people coming to see it as it apparently has been built. Like where they going to park and what do you think the neighbors thought of it all, and what if RAGBRAI was going through. My sense of disbelief refused to be suspended.
It isn’t like it is Wrigley Field or Fenway Park for God’s sake.
And they are not touching the house or the movie set field. Thee other diamonds and buildings will be on other parts of the property. Was a long time ago but it seems like the bleachers and the field are recreations of the movie set. The field might have been replanted to corn between the tine filming wrapped and the site became famous.
