If you are an individual rider and not using a charter or if you don’t have a motor home or camper to crash in, what do you do about showers each night?

If you are an individual rider and not using a charter or if you don’t have a motor home or camper to crash in, what do you do about showers each night?
Most overnight towns do have places where you can get a shower, usually the high school gym or the community swimming pool’s locker room. Just be advised that it’s probably going to cost a few bucks, likely to be crowded, you’ll more than likely be showering in cold water, and if you want to be sure of soap and a towel, you had better BYO.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. None of us should shower during RAGBRAI. We’d all smell the same, so who would notice!!!! Hey, it’s RAGBRAI, lower your expectations!!!!!!

Ok, 2 threads about showers already. I’ve seen the PBV’s shower thingie and it is strange with cold water set up in the open, cheap I guess. Lots of charters have their own portable shower set ups but you might have to provide your own shower water bag. Most school shower rooms remind my too much of the cattle call showers of high schools days so I avoid them if possible but a few times in years past when I rode fast I actually took showers on dry floors and with hot water. Best showers I think are the truck set ups but they do have lines but are worth it. One year I just took my shower bag and threw the rope I bring with it over a tree branch and took a warm ‘spit’ shower, much better than a garden hose. Oh I bring a rope and a few cheap carabiners so after my shower I refill the water bag and hang it from a tree, fence, backstop, or truck mirror and rinse out my cycling clothes I wore that day to get the grungies out. Some people like to take morning showers but kinda hard if you still have to take down your tent and pack everything up because most of the time you work up a good sweat before you start riding. To each is own.
5 years of doing the ride and have never had a problem finding a shower everyday. Whether it be a school Rec center or shower truck. I prefer the shower trucks…. hot water and can get a towel. Last year i did a few schools cold showers, but after being in the hot weather all day they felt dang good.
Let’s not forget those “24 hour conversions” of car washes. Lots of room, never had a cold shower in them and almost always no lines.
Nope, not last year, but I kept an eye out for one. But then, my RAG last year was really cut short because of heat exhaustion. Hoping this year’s XL will be different with cooler weather and a “natural” shower…or two.

Yeah, it was hot!!! On Monday, at the top of some hill, about 15 miles into the day’s ride, I was questioning whether or not I could finish the week!!!

But you did!!! You must have found enough of our good Iowa curbs. Here’s hoping there will be many more of them this year…in our northerly route!!!

Curbs, yes! However, it’s a Southern route!

That’s one of the minor problems with this forum. Two threads, as you have pointed out, but each thread is under a different category (this one is under “RAGBRAI XL”, and the other thread — http://ragbrai.com/forums/topic/what-about-showers-and-baths — is under “RAGBRAI XXXIX)”; however, when you see them both in the list under “Latest Discussions” it appears that someone was too lazy to post in the correct thread and just created a new one. I’ve been ready to call someone out on this as well, until I recognized that this is the result of that minor glitch.
FYI — That’s also why you’ll sometimes see threads about buses, charters, or teams appearing twice; once posted under the general “RAGBRAI XL” heading and a second time under a more specific heading like “Clubs/Teams/Charters”.
