Showers…they may be converted car washes, portable/commerical showers being pulled by trucks, swimming pool showers, school showers, portable showers that are part of a charter group, showers that are put up just for the occasion of RAGBRAI and then taken down again after we leave, garden hoses hooked up to a faucet (they are a bit cold though), showering in someone’s home…happens quite often and sometimes it just rains at an opportune time to get a soft water shower. Yep, that’s happened as well.
Ok. So you can get a cleaned up at each overnight stay without any trouble? Just tolerate some cold water maybe? I can handle that. Just don’t like the idea of crashing out for the night all dirty.
You should be able to clean up each evening and not have to crash being all dirty. Best bet for a warm to hot shower…portable/commercial showers pulled by trucks to each overnight town or perhaps showers that are provided by a charter group such as PBV. Best bet for a cool or cold shower…public swimming pool showers or out of a hose connected to someone’s water supply…absolutely cold and breath taking. Cheers.
Except sometimes you shower up and it is still 100 degrees and you sweat and stink till dark, then go to bed to wake up in a pool of sweat (Altoona). But it is nice to get the salt off. Showers are easy to find, but the quality varies as noted.
The showers in the Grinnel Rec center were awesome and only $3. I would have paid a lot more!!
love it when places are available to shower in the morning. I guess if our town was to offer showers, we would offer them after the day’s ride AND morning before the ride.
money to be had by people who love to shower before the ride.
Thanks for all the feedback. I did the BP MS150, Houston to Austin, last year and the shower after the first day made for a good nights sleep. I wouldn’t care if it was in a pond as long as I can get the sweat off.

Without any trouble? Depends! You’ll be able to find showers but the lines may be a little long. Swiming pools are another good options for showers.
I have used the local high schools, colleges, community college for several years now, plentiful showers in the locker rooms and most will rent you a towel so you do not have to worry about drying your towel overnight.
Some have even spaghetti feeds in the gym so you can camp in the school yard, grab a shower and chow down all without walking all over.
