The Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa

Wish List for 2014 Route

TJ,

Here’s a thread for our wish list for 2014….

My wish list items are:

1) A longer then average route with a shorter last day.

2) Getting Pastafari to return

3) A ride over the border into Minnesota for part of 1 day’s ride including a pass-through town (that old 1 newspaper doesn’t tread into another newspaper’s territory, let’s get beyond that in this age of “.com”s)

3) though would probably involve another states DOT and Highway patrol and/or at least 1 or 2 county Sheriff department’s and county engineers cooperation.

I will add my wish list to Mootsman’s (with which I agree):

(1) An East to West Route.
(2) A return of Mama Raphaels.

The solution to Iceman’s Minnesota detour is simple. Iowa needs to aquire the southern Minnesota territory, temporarily if needs be. After all, the Hawkeyes secured the Floyd of Rosedale trophy this year, picking up a southern county or two from MN should be part of the deal!

Border conflicts!, you gotta love ’em. I dig the way your thinking outside the box Iceman.

Shoot, why stop there?  Why not start in South Dakota or Nebraska, and once we hit the Mississippi keep on going to finish in either Wisconsin or Illinois?  I’m sure Prairie du Chien would love to have us (not!).

In fact, if you worked on it I bet you could figure out a route that starts in South Sioux City (NE) and then goes north into SD before crossing the Big Sioux River into Sioux City IA.  Once in Iowa you can quickly jog north to maybe catch Minnesota around the Worthington area before dropping back into Iowa and continuing east to Dubuque.  But instead of calling it quits on the island by the dog track/casino, we instead cross the Julien Dubuque bridge into East Dubuque (IL) and head for a final stop at Dickeyville (WI).  Just think!! Longer than usual, and we manage to hit seven states in just a week.

Sheeshkabibble!

Yes – the Minnesota thing is Mootsman’s idea. I think it would be fun but it’s not really my priority. I’m cool with the idea that RAGBRAI is for the benefit of all the folks in Iowa. I just wish it were really run that way. East to West!!

This thread is intended for everyone to add their wish list items. So add some of yours. I’d like seeing other’s wish list items like Iceman’s…

1. A true century day, not just the loop.
2. A river route for the last day. Something like Guttenberg to Dubuque.

As long as the beer is cold, the rest will fall into place…

Sorry, SFC, they will never approve a north to south route. It’s not “traditional.”

One year ending in guttenberg the last 10+- miles was along the river. And the year into sabula had a longer stretch, maybe 15 miles in the river valley. One time into burligton from the north but 2-5 miles from the river for that 14+- miles. And my wish list item, ALLAMAKEE County. Then after 32 RAGBRAI’s I will finally have all 99 counties.

1) Longer route, 500-550 miles would be nice
2) Diagonal route, NW to SE or SW to NE.
3) River ride sounds cool.

OK, as long as we’re wishing:

-Free beer (or at least less than $4/can)
-Good bands (U2, Rolling Stones, Kelly Clarkson, No Doubt, Jason Aldean, Bruce Springsteen, Alabama, and Maroon 5 would do)
-You can never have too many scantily clad women
-Job applying suntan lotion on the Swedish Bikini Team
-a bed with air conditioning to sleep in
