A RAGBRAI rider injured in a crash Thursday morning remains in critical condition.

Stephen Briggs, 68, from Waverly, was riding in a group when he collided with another bike and was thrown off, the Floyd County sheriff’s office said.

Briggs was treated for a head injury and flown to Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa in Mason City.

Briggs, a registered rider, was at least a 10-year-veteran of RAGBRAI. He was wearing a helmet, officials said.

The crash occurred south of Charles City about 7:35 a.m., near the intersection of Shadow Avenue at and 260th Street. Several doctors, nurses, surgeons, and paramedics who were on the ride helped Briggs at the scene.
