Rumor has it ISP does not think the guys this year did a good job. On the contrary, I think they did a great job. They should not be replaced by “MORE STRICT” officers. See note below. Apparently the commissioner of the Iowa State Patrol is thinking about pulling the alcohol team and replacing them with some hard asses who apparently would be much stricter on the rides (AKA arresting people). Please write the ISP and The Register and tell them what a great job the alcohol team is doing and how they make RAGBRAI a great experience. Also if you could pass this message on to others and other teams the more letters the better!

I though Jeanie (?) and the boys did a great job this year. I really didn’t see a lot of people in the beer gardens or out of controll. And it was a good move not trying to push people along to hard with the constant heat and humidity, just the extra 1/2 hour to an hour really helped the people who were trying to make it.
I agree with jwsknk the officers did a great job, most riders were smart enough to drink more water than alcohol in that heat.
They kept the roads safe and I saw less problems by far than two years ago
I have deep respect for the officers out in the sun all day making the ride safe for all of us. Thank you to The State Police of Iowa
I know that the heat caused me to drink more water than beer. Drinking water on the kurbs of Iowa? WTF? There goes my reputation!!!!
I think these gents did an awesome job and kept their humor – even in the sweltering heat. For one, I applaud them for providing an invaluable service.
My only complaint is I didn’t get one of the “ISP – Team Buzzkill” wrist bands. Who ever came up with those should get a medal. Brilliant!
We were impressed with the cops on the beat of Ragbrai. We also thought we would see a lot more drinking and drinking related problems (which we did not see) than we did – based on what I had read in the forum previous to the ride.
Ragbrai would be tough to ride without the positive police presence it had this year.
ISP was great. Provided good humor and a little dancing music on the route. A tip of my (sweaty) hat to to them.
I thought those men and women did a fantastic job! As hot as it was riding, you couldn’t get me to trade places with ISP standing out in the heat and keeping us safe. Don’t know where the idea came from that they didn’t do a bang-up job.
