ROCKWELL, Ia. — Riders could experience wind speeds up to 40 miles per hour along today Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa route, the National Weather Service said.
“The entire route is going to be impacted by rain,” said Kelsey Angle, warning coordination meteorologist.
The storm throughout northern Iowa is moving at about 30 mph, essentially along today’s route from Clear Lake to Charles City, he said.

Rain started at about 9:45 a.m. here today. It will become heavy with a threat of lighting, thunder and strong winds, Angle said.
Lighter rains will persist through about noon in Cerro Gordo County. The storm then will move into Floyd County, where tonight’s overnight stop is.
Angle said if riders can hear thunder, then they’re close enough to be struck by lightning. If that’s the case, he advises riders seek shelter where possible.

There are no active severe weather watches or warnings in effect at this time.
RAGBRAI director TJ Juskiewicz said towns are prepared “for the worst weather and hope for the best.”
“We let riders know to be prepared for the elements as well,” he said.
