☀️ Beat the Heat, Ride Smart! 🚴

Iowa summers can be hot and humid. Whether you’re riding a few miles or the whole route, know the signs of heat-related illness.

🥵 Heat Exhaustion

Watch for:

  • Heavy sweating
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Muscle cramps
  • Nausea
  • Weakness

➡️ Stop riding, move to shade, cool down, and drink water with electrolytes.

  • 🚨 Heat Stroke is a Medical Emergency
  • Signs include:
  • Confusion
  • Hot, red skin
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Seizures

➡️ Call 911 immediately and begin cooling the person while waiting for help.

  • 💧 Prevent Heat Illness
  • Drink water before you’re thirsty.
  • Replace electrolytes throughout the day.
  • Eat regularly to keep your energy up.
  • Take breaks in the shade.
  • Wear light-colored, breathable clothing.
  • Look out for your fellow riders.

Remember: Hydrate. Fuel. Rest. Repeat. A quick break is always better than a medical emergency. Stay safe and enjoy the ride!
