The record rainfall Wednesday and Thursday in the Dubuque area has prompted RAGBRAI organizers in Davenport to make contingency plans to deal with a rapid rise of the Mississippi River.

Only minor flooding is projected for the Quad Cities area, but it would affect the site where riders are scheduled to dip their tires in the river, said Joe Taylor, president of the Quad Cities Convention and Visitors Bureau and chairman of the Davenport RAGBRAI committee. So that location and the last mile of the route could change.

Organizers said they will make a decision Friday morning and communicate it online and through staff members at the Friday overnight town of Coralville.

The Credit Island location for campers spending Saturday night in Davenport would change. A new location is being worked out.

Taylor say any flooding would not affect the Bix road race Saturday morning in Davenport or a downtown street festival.
