Day 1: What to know before heading out
- 21 July, 2013
- RAGBRAI

Here’s a quick primer about today’s ride from Council Bluffs to Harlan:
WEATHER: WHO-TV of Des Moines says scattered storms are possible early today and then clear out, though the clouds will keep things cooler. The forecast high is 85.
TONIGHT’S ENTERTAINMENT: The Mighty Nish Band will be on the main stage in Harlan.
THE SIGHTS: Here’s a brief selection of the things you’ll encounter today:
>>Council Bluffs will transform its 100 block of Broadway into “Petticoat Lane.” Riders will be taken back to Victorian times as they eat breakfast.
>>Jack Link’s Beef Jerky and the city of Underwood have partnered to give riders the chance to meet Jack Link’s mascot, the Sasquatch.
>>Shelby is home to a 76-foot ear of corn. It also has the Rock Island Old Stone Arch, one of the nation’s four 30-foot culvert bridges.
