Here’s a quick primer about today’s 50-mile ride from Perry to Des Moines:

WEATHER: Once the pieces are picked up from Monday night’s severe thunderstorm, expect a perfect day — less humid and much cooler. Mid-morning temperatures will be in the mid-60s, with a high reaching only into the low 80s, according to WHO-TV.

Wars and wrestling: Dallas Center is hosting “Color Wars,” where people will be able to throw brightly colored powder on one another. The Longest Yard Sports Bar will be holding a dwarf wrestling event.

Baseball fame: Van Meter is the hometown of Bob Feller, a National Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher. Visit the Bob Feller Museum to learn more about the town’s famous son.
