- Des Moines Register
Here’s a quick primer about today’s 50-mile ride from Des Moines to Knoxville:
WEATHER: A cool morning will make some wear long sleeves, according to WHO-TV’s forecast — expect overnight lows in the 50s. By this afternoon there will have sunshine and highs in the low 80s.
TONIGHT’S ENTERTAINMENT:
Main Stage Entertainment: Kevin Gordon, The Diplomats of Solid Sound and Brother Trucker
Opening Acts: Joe & Vicki Price, Matt Woods, The River Monks, Chad Elliott, Thankful Dirt, The High Crest, Dustin Busch Trio, Typical Males, Rumble Seat Riot and Retro Jukebox
THE SIGHTS: Here’s a brief selection of the things you’ll encounter today:
Iowa State Fairgrounds: Get a preview of the Aug. 8-18 fair — including a sneak peek at the butter sculptures.
Christmas in July: Riders will see caroling, mistletoe, snow bales, sleighs and Christmas cookies when they ride through Runnells. The town’s theme is “Hills, Chills and Wheels.”
Largest lake: While riding to Knoxville, take a break at Iowa’s largest lake, Lake Red Rock. The development of the lake caused six towns to be flooded.
Iowa pride: Listen to 13 Iowa bands perform in Knoxville. Riders will also be able to visit the home of Dixie Gebhardt, the designer of Iowa’s state flag.
