Day 5: What to know before heading out

  • 25 July, 2013
  • Des Moines Register

Here’s a quick primer about today’s 52-mile ride from Knoxville to Oskaloosa:

WEATHER: The ride will start today with clear skies and temperatures in the mid-60s, WHO-TV forecasts. Expect a high in the mid-80s. There is a chance for storms late tonight.

TONIGHT’S ENTERTAINMENT:

Main Stage Entertainment: The Nadas & the Fishheads

Opening Acts: Oskaloosa Municipal Band

THE SIGHTS: Here’s a brief selection of the things you’ll encounter today:

More than tulips: Pella’s famous tulips will be gone by July, but riders can still enjoy the city’s other Dutch-themed attractions. For example, riders can visit the country’s largest working windmill.

Meaningful mural: Check out artist Todd Spaur’s mural when you ride through Bussey. Spaur painted the mural to thank the town’s residents for helping him after he was in a car accident.

Kiss a camel: Have you ever wanted to kiss a camel? You will get a chance to do just that in Beacon.
