The 23rd Mayor’s Annual Ride for Trails is set for Saturday, April 17, 2010.  The ride is presented by the City of Des Moines and The Des Moines Register. The ride begins at 10:00 a.m. at City Hall, 400 Robert D. Ray Drive.

Join Mayor Cownie and the Dream Team on this fun bike ride and experience Des Moines as you ride through area neighborhoods and raise money for trails.

All proceeds from this event support Des Moines´ trails. Over the last 10 years this ride has raised over $100,000 for improvements to Des Moines trails!

New this year is the 10-mile family friendly route. This year’s ride will offer 3 route options to choose from.  They will still offer the 20- and 30-mile routes but we have added a 10-mile family friendly route as well as adapting the registration fees for younger riders.

In recent years MAR funds have helped to complete a new trail south of Gray’s Lake Park that takes riders under Fleur Drive and connects to the Bill Riley Trail. They have helped to complete the last segment of the Walnut Creek Trail which allows for an uninterrupted trail from downtown Des Moines to Jefferson, Iowa (a distance of over 70 miles) and they have contributed to the completion of phase one of the Waveland Trail.

Registration Fees:
$20 ($25 after April 1) – age 19 and older includes a t-shirt and lunch (add $1 for XXL)
$5 – ages 5-18, will include lunch but not a t-shirt
FREE for children age 4 and younger – will not include lunch or a t-shirt

HELMETS ARE REQUIRED FOR ALL RIDERS!
