Help raise funds for recreational trails at the 24th Annual Mayor’s Ride for Trails. Take a 20 or 30 mile route through Des Moines area neighborhoods, starting at City Hall, 400 Robert D. Ray Drive in the East Village on Saturday, April 16.

Over the last 10 years this ride has raised over $100,000 for improvements to Des Moines trails. In recent years MAR funds have helped to complete a new trail south of Gray’s Lake Park that takes riders under Fleur Drive and connects to the Bill Riley Trail.

They have helped to complete the last segment of the Walnut Creek Trail which allows for an uninterrupted trail from downtown Des Moines to Jefferson, Iowa (a distance of over 70 miles) and they have contributed to the completion of phase one of the Waveland Trail.

The ride begins at 10AM, and registration fee is $20 before April 1, $25 after that date, and includes lunch and a t-shirt. Children 5-18 years old can register for $5, which includes lunch. Participation for those 5 and under is free, but does not include lunch or t-shirt.  Helmets for riders is required. For more information, visit www.dmgov.org or contact Tim Smith at 248-6314.
