Des Moines’ RAGBRAI Bands Guide

Everclear 2013 1So you want to know what bands will be playing in Des Moines?  Entertainment kicks off starting at 11 a.m. with the Summerland Tour headline shows beginning at 6:30 p.m. Here is the evening headline entertainment line-up courtesy of Joe Lawler of Juice Magazine:

Everclear

Why you would know them: The hits “Santa Monica,” “I Will Buy You a New Life,” “Everything to Everyone,” “Father of Mine” and “Wonderful.”

What they’ve been up to: In 2012 the band launched the Summerland Tour, which in the first year featured Sugar Ray, Lit, Marcy Playground and the Gin Blossoms. This year the Summerland Tour has all the bands you can see Tuesday.

Live

Why you would know them: The hits “I Alone,” “Lightning Crashes,” “Selling the Drama,” “Turn My Head” and “The Dolphin’s Cry.”

What they’ve been up to: The band broke up in 2009, then reformed in 2011 without original singer Ed Kowalczyk. Chris Shinn of Unified Theory handles the vocals now.

Why you would know them: The hits “Hey Man, Nice Shot,” “Welcome to the Fold” and “Take a Picture.”

What they’ve been up to: Filter went on hiatus in 2003 when Richard Patrick joined the Damning Well. He reformed the band in 2007, and Filter played Lazerfest in 2008. Filter released its sixth album, “The Sun Comes Out Tonight,” in June.

Sponge

Why you would know them: The hits “Plowed,” “Molly (16 Candles Down the Drain)” and “Wax Ecstatic.”

What they’ve been up to: The band has had lineup changes over time, but frontman Vinnie Dombroski has kept it going for more than 20 years. The band has a tour exclusive version of its album “Stop the Bleeding” available at shows, and it will see a nationwide release this fall.

    Looking forward to seeing Better Than Ezra, Everclear and Live during RAGBRAI this year. What happened to the Johnny Holmes Band though?
