Elk Horn's RAGBRAI mermaids

The throng of bikers that rolled into Elk Horn for RAGBRAI’s second day were greeted with the big Danish windmill, a tank, delicious crepes, a long line for breakfast at the fire station, competing DJs blaring Main Street tunes — an the most popular attraction of all: three mermaids raising money for the local municipal pool:
The three mermaids, all 17 and local high school seniors from Kimballton, were, from left, Taylor Peterson, Codi Bissen and Cassidy Bissen.
Yes, the Bissens are twin sisters.
And aqua fashion comes natural to this trio: They’re all lifeguards at the pool.
“We want to buy a heater,” Cassidy explained.
Fortunately, RAGBRAI riders are interested only in cold, cold water. And mermaid photos.
Also in Elk Horn: Mayor Stan Jens greeted riders on Main Street with gusto:
