BT…riding IA#927 out of Davenport will take you through several smaller towns, but most will have “eats”, then using US#6 will take you through Iowa City, the Amana Colonies…a variety of really special sights and food…and on to Newton, then county roads to go north past Des Moines, then IA#44 all the way to Harlan or Portsmouth, then going up to CR#F32 and using that county road into Woodbine.  Both IA#92 and the route  I gave you will have areas of heavy vehicle traffic, but that’s about as straight as it can get and will give you lots of opportunities for camp and eating.  To get around the heavier traffic areas you might try to use county roads above or below the busy highways.  Try to get an Iowa DOT Bicylcist map for a complete look at the county roads you can use to stay away from some of the heavier traffic.  The Iowa DOT address for the “Iowa 2009 Transportation Map for Bicyclists”  and other info is:  Iowa Department of Transportation, Office of Systems Planning, 800 Lincoln Way,  Ames, Iowa 50010.  Good luck.  See you on the road. Knees.
