RAGBRAI LI Route Announced on Jan. 27!

2011 Mileage Goal?

Its time for those New Year Resolutions

What is your personal mileage goal for 2011?
I hope to ride 3,000 by 12/31/2011,
500 by 3/31, (doable in the sunny south but maybe not in snowy Iowa)
1200 to 1500 by Ragbrai,
450+/- at Ragbrai,
850 to 650 after Ragbrai

Best Wishes to all in 2011!

Last year…no wait it’s now the year before, I had a goal of riding at least one day each month, but did not set a mileage goal.  I made that goal and consequently achieved my highest mileage on the year ever at 3,000+.  This immediate last year I didn’t set any goals but just rode.  After RAGBRAI I realized I might be able to achieve 4,000 so made that my new goal.  If I hadn’t had appendicitis in November, I may have made it.  I did 3,816 so still my best year ever!  I’m changing careers somewhat right now and will have weekends off for the first time in 25 years.  Yeah I think 5,000 is obtainable!

I got a ride in yesterday and finished the year with 5100+. Hope to do 6000+ this year. It helps that I retired this year. But if I go back to work 6000+ may be a little high.

At least 3,300. I have decided to ride cross country this year for the American Lung Assoc. in honor of my ex-wife who just passed away from lung cancer at the age of 52. That is just to young to die. So I will try and raise money in her name to help fight lung disease. Good luck roadbiker.  I have a 50-year old friend dying of the same.  I don’t think he will see summer.  A great cause.

Hope to get over 4K this year. Wellness challenge at work helped get it going last year. From 3-26 through 9-26-10, I was able to log over 3800. Did Iowa from East to West for Ragbrai start. With the start and end towns being what they were, I got 6 states (Iowa,Nebraska,South Dakota,Minnesota (side  trip from Clear Lake) ,Wisconsin, and Illinois during the week.  It was awesome!! Did 5 centuries and 1100 mi. in 10 days of riding. Met a guy from Tx on the way to MN and found out that he rode to Ragbrai from home!! All said here before, Great People, Good Times, It doesn’t get any better than that!!!!!!!!!!!

I’ve got to be honest here, I don’t know how you all find the time to ride 4K+ miles a year.  I am lucky to get 1500-2000 in before Ragbrai and that is almost all between May and the ride in July.  I work from 8am-8pm daily and usually weekends.  Between my work hours and the weather in Iowa, there is no way I could do that much mileage.  I wish I could though!

Davey, you could do it man!! If you can do 1500-2000 in 3 months you could get 3K for sure. It comes down to making time to ride. You seem to be able to make time from May to July, now just keep it going.

I am sure I could do it if I had the time.  It isn’t because of any physical limitations.  The only reason I ride from May to July is because my contract is from Aug 1 to May 1.  I guess I work too much.  Dang, I am going to buy a lottery ticket right now.  LOL.

I am hoping to make it to 3000 this year. That will be about double my mileage from last year! I need to get an early start and find time on weekends for longer rides. My kids are just too busy with school sports for me to get many miles during the week.

My goal was 1000 last year before RAGBRAI and 1500 by the end if my biking season…I reached the 1000 before RAGBRAI but not the 1500 I think I got to 1300+ so this year it’s 1500 before RAGBRAI and 2000 by the end of the season

Heck Bobby, if you had 1K prior to Ragbrai you just about hit your 1.5K by the end of Ragbrai.  By your numbers, it appears you are not including the Ragbrai miles and may have reached 1750!   Good Job!

I rode exactly the number of miles I wanted to last year, and I plan on matching that this year.

Hope to do 3,500 to 4,000, but it depends on whether it rains a lot and whether it floods here. Floods can mess up an entire season.

Davy I did count RAGBRAI, but last years ride i missed one of the days (like Tuesday) and then I ended up having to leave the ride early and missed out on biking Fri and Sat, I did some miles when I got back but I didnt reach the 1500, so I plan on making up some miles from last year and getting to 1500 by RAGBRAI and 2000+ by the end of the season…”Get on your BIKES and RIDE”
