So does the route that was announced include the smaller towns between the over night towns? Just wondering what towns from Altoona to Grinnell you can expect to go through.

That won’t be announced until later on….like around April or so. Stay tuned to this forum; it’s probably the most accurate source of information outside of the Des Moines Register itself.
You could also go to the “Routes and Maps” section of this forum (look at the light blue bar at the top of this page) and review past rides; see which ones used similar overnight stops (we’ve overnighted in all of these towns at least once before). No guarantee that routes will be *exactly* the same, but they should be close enough to give you a general idea.
Another fun idea would be to go to Google maps and input the overnight towns, select the “bicycle” option to see what Google recommends, then print it out. Later on, you can compare it to what RAGBRAI actually uses and see how close they match.

Thanks…BB July can not come soon enough. We live in Baxter and in 2001 was the last stop before Grinnell. So that would be cool if that happen again. I think most people on Ragbrai was happy with our hospitality.
Did anyone catch the climbing numbers???? They went too fast for me to get them down….
Not positive on the first one since I was expecting it, but I think he said 4,900 which will put it right at 20k. Not the toughest but still nothing to sneeze at. 454.2 miles total so if the loop is Tuesday (70.9) it will end up around 480.
Dan, what do you think the route will be from Atlantic to Carroll?
SUN — 64.2 miles, 4,946 climb
MON — 65.4 miles 4,798 climb
TUES — 70.9 miles 1,784 climb
WED— 56.1 miles , 1,246 climb
THUR — 57.5 miles 3,294 climb
FRI — 75.3 miles 2,800 climb
SAT — 64.8 miles, 2,338 climb
Total — 454.2 miles 21,206

Experienced rider from Rockford, IL looking for a fun team to join.
Will be the first time for RAGBRAI, but have been on many many centuries, Rides for the Roses, etc… Enjoy making new friends, riding and Beer…..
Well?????, I guess I will go ahead and ride this year. What the heck. LOL.
I’m kinda liking this route. Always a glutton for punishment, I think I’ll skip Coralville, get a good night’s sleep, and run the Bix on that Saturday. I’ve always wanted to do it. Of course if I were a real stud, I’d get up very early on Saturday, bike in to Davenport, and then run the Bix!!
the 65 mile last day seems a bit longer than what they have been doing. really kind of screws the pass through towns that day as everyone hussles to get in and trucks/busses loaded and home at a decent hour
I too was surprised by the last day milage. My team (CUBS) normally have a plan to organise a team photo and then roll in towards the river around lunchtime. That could mean a very early start if it is not to feel like a race to the finish.
On my last ride in 2008 there were a few casualties on the last day as people rush to complete and make mistakes. I would be keen for that not to happen. Dawn chorus for me!
Just for your information:
RAGBRAI VIII (1980) ran from Glenwood to Atlantic to Carroll. Here’s a look at the profiles for those first two days courtesy of Geobike:
Not saying that we’ll be using the exact same route, but it’s grist for the mill.
