It will start in a town near the Missouri River and end in a town near the Mississippi River! That’s as good as I can guess right now with a fryed out brain (post RAGBRAI)!!!
If there is an overnight at the state fairgrounds, I will need to remember my bike lock. Plus the thought of riding through east DM just scares me. “Bikers=friends, not targets”
Looking back on the 40 year history I would think they will try to stay as close to the first year as possible. I would guess Storm Lake, Fort Dodge, Ames and of course Des Moines
I just have a hunch that the 2012 route will include an overnight or “go through” visit at Lake View again. It’s been quite a few years since we last did an overnight there…2004, I believe. The business district looks so nice right now…new concrete/brick streets and walkways, still looks great in the neighborhoods, the lake looks very inviting and everything is so clean, etc. We took my Aunt Wanda to Lake View for an evening meal after visiting Mom at Rose Vista in Woodbine yesterday…and they have the best pie there at Kathy’s Korner, an ice cream shoppe plus restaurant in downtown Lake View. I had a big piece of strawberry/peach pie and I have to attest that it is very RAGBRAI worthy!!! It is very common for customers to order their pie first before ordering their entree to make sure they get their favorite flavor!!! See ya’ in July. Cheers.
Let’s cut out the whiners and put in a true century for everyone again. They could follow that up with a loop day to make it back to back centuries.
Brilliant! I like that idea. Just like the way it used to be when I first started riding RAGBRAI.
I’m all for century day… but that’s cause I so desperately want to do a century. I’m so determined to do RAGBRAI next year. I’m even willing to face the headwinds, hills and humidity.
Unfortunately I’m not familiar enough with Iowa Geography to place a guess on the route. Just looking forward to inevitable friendly people, pie, entertainment, pie, good conversation, and of course pie.

start north of I-80, end south of I-80. Going by the Registers headquarters and overnight at the state fairgrounds.

Being the 40th anniversary, I HAVE to believe they’ll include Des Moines.
Onawa to Muscatine? stops in Harlan, Guthrie Center, DM, Knoxville, Ottumwa, Washington. ?
Now I have a submission for the “guess the route contest”!

Why not end in Bettendorf? Don’t think it’s ever ended there.
Clinton is my vote for end town
Put me down for Onawa, Cherokee, Fort Dodge, Des Moines, Marshaltown, Animosa, Clinton
But the bank on Des Moines. I’m more inclined to think it could be a diagonal but also like the idea of following one of the original routes.

Southern route for 2012!
