Here is my 2 pfennigs worth regarding the logo. While it’s nice to feature Iowa’s natural and man-made resources (think “corn, pigs, tractors, wind turbines, water towers, etc”) in the logo, leave off those stereotypical items in the RAGBRAI 44 logo.
Instead, let’s honor Iowa’s other natural resource: water. The logo could have a Lewis-and-Clarke keelboat hauling a cargo of bicycles along the Missouri River OR a Mississippi River side-wheeler or stern-wheeler, with the bike wheel hidden in the boat’s paddle wheel (think of the bicycle built into the side of the tractor in RAGBRAI 43’s logo). To be consistent with the overall theme of water, the logos of the overnight towns could showcase a water-related feature of their town.
It’s a little late for input this year. They have probably been working on it for months by now. But maybe for next year…
Anyway the RAGBRAI powers that be told me the logo will be released VERY SOON!! I can’t wait! Since I am in the “art field” (art director) I really look forward to seeing what they come up with. I might not always love it but I do respect the thought and expertise they put into it. And it amazes me that there are actually clues in the logo! That part is WAY over this Princess’ head!! :)
badcatmomma, I agree. The pyramids are in the Hickory Grove Cemetery which could be the tree tie in, or not. It would be more helpful if the trees were another clue entirely! The RAGBRAI banner at the bottom looks a little “barky” or something. The hammock looks like a stylized V, I can see it done up in chrome emblazoned on the hood of, of what? I don’t know enough Iowa history to say what it might be. And the geared, three spoke wheels in the trees seem like they must signify something. And of course the leaves, bark, and geared wheel are repeated in the non-logo elements of the graphic that announces the logo.
There was reference to the 1989 route recently, which was hilly and southwest to northeast. Maybe the logo is designed to encourage us to find plenty of resting spots since we’re going to be working our behinds off on several days of hills!
I really like it too. Should make great looking jersey. As far as decoding the logo to predict route, I have no idea. But to my eyes, it is kinda predictive of tailwinds, sunshine, and a great time!

A piglet, paddling a kayak carved out of a giant ear of corn, shooting the rapids in a river of beer, under a bridge, packed with cheering cyclists.
No Mr. Sexton, it will be a big fat, ugly pig riding a bike and the pig will have an extreme Trump-comb over.

I have been thinking about a large dog wearing sun glasses in a vintage convertible parked in front of Tags in Alton.
RIDE RIGHT
well, it’s out. Hmmm… wheel trees, tree city… Forest City… north route?
Definitely North!!!!
The tent is in the shape of a pyramid. I say south with Albia and Avery as pass-through towns on the way to Ottumwa.

But what can it all mean???

If you ask me, the hammock looks like a boomerang. The band Boomerang is from Clive Ia. Coincidence, I think not.
I really love this logo. The colors are bright and it just says RAGBRAI to me. :)

I just don’t like it. Way too bland.
There’s no sleeping on RAGBRAI! I could stay home and do that.
