2017 Overnight Towns Guess

I know this thread will get replaced when the 2017 topic is created but with registration opening in 3 weeks, why not.

My guess, a northern route but a little further south then the last northern route that got so close to Minnesota. A couple of larger towns also since last year so many were small.

Hawarden
Cherokee
Lake City
Ames
Toledo
Waterloo
Manchester
Dubuque

Here’s something that just struck me about a possible diagonal route (or maybe someone in another thread mentioned it and my old memory just thinks it was my idea!): this year we rode through, you know, Diagonal. Coincidence?

Looking for possible connections related to the Mark Twain clues in the logo video, here’s 2 that point to Dubuque:

http://us.geoview.info/the_mark_twain_bridge_in_dubuque_ia,24187709p

The Twain bridge…..

And then there’s this which also refers to the river boat:

A river boat named the Mark Twain out of Dubuque.

I should have said the Twain river boat was built in Dubuque. It is based in Hannibal.

I saw orange globes in a dream last night after the ball game. Could that mean something? Today I have been searching for the “magic napkin” that has been helpful in predicting previous routes. Mitch….is it over at your place? I hope Lucy Lu has not chewed on it.

I have the magic napkin! I found it at the bar in town. It was under the table that I saw TJ and Greenie at a few years ago. They were deep in conversation and I saw TJ taking notes on a napkin! The Orange globe you saw is the Orange City water tower!

The orange globe was the sun rising over the city of Chicago today, illuminating the path for the hordes of humanity streaming downtown to party with the Cubbies. I have never seen so many people on a commuter train as I saw this morning. They kicked me and my folding bike off one stop early and told me “sorry, son, we aren’t making any stops after this until we get downtown”. So I unfolded my bike and made a six mile ride to work instead of a three mile ride. A World Series win, great biking weather in early November, life is good even if I don’t know if I will be able to get on a train to go home this evening!

I have to admit that Dubuque is a likely end town for next year. It’s just not as exciting to talk about in a thread like this as some of the other options. I do feel that its connection to Twain is a little weak but we could be making way too much about his presence in that logo video.

I’m from Kentucky and don’t know nothing bout no Iowa towns. However, I’m sure the M.N. (magic napkin) has directions to my first cold 2017 RAGBRAI beer!!!!

Well, it would appear that this thread will not get replaced when the 2017 forum is created. It seems to have been moved there instead!

It could tie in with a riverboat theme, sure, and there have now been mentions of riverboat related towns potentially at the start, end, and middle of the ride. But what’s up with this “Latin” quotation in the FAQ on that website?:

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. Ut enim ad minim veniam, quis nostrud exercitation ullamco laboris nisi.

Here’s Google translate’s best effort:

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod and vitality, tempor ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. Over the years come, who nostrud exercise, efforts if the school district.

There’s a story here somewhere, perhaps the Register will put a reporter on it?

Lorem Ipsum is just random letters. Graphic designers use it to hold a place for real copy to be inserted at a later date. Sorry, no mystery here.

I think you have it Amanda, an Orange City start, just around the corner and down the street from you.

It was still a mystery to some of us, thanks for clearing it up.

So, a picture of a riverboat accompanies the announcement of registration opening next week. Can anyone read the name from the inconveniently low resolution picture or recognize the boat? Might be a clue. Judging from next year’s jersey I think riverboats figure into this ride route somehow. The new jersey looks nice enough. Doesn’t really grab me right off but my opinion of it will probably grow over time.

The three stars along with the river boat could represent that it would be the third time we’ve ended in a particular town. Looking at the RAGBRAI town grid, that would be Keokuk. Previous 1981, 1992.
