2018 Guess the Route Contest Predictions

Its time to put in what our guesses are for the “Guess the Route” contest. Since this is not a RAGRBRAI ending in a 0 like the 40th, I think they’ll stick with the northern-central-southern route rotation making this year a central route. I’m working on mine. I think this year we’ll be enjoying some of the Iowa’s slightly larger cities. Starting in Council Bluffs, going through Ames and ending in Dubuque. Let’s start putting out our full route predictions we’ll actually enter the contest with!

I agree with Sandaltan. I think Eagle Grove will be a host town. I had my guesses written down on a scrap of paper. I must have thrown it away because I can’t find it!

Princess, that may be how the Magic Napkin began!!!

BTW, RAGBRAI don’t care!!!

Has it occurred to anyone that Eagle Point Park in Dubuque overlooks the Mississippi River? And if you look downstream a bit you’ll see several paddleboats? Plus Dubuque apparently got pretty good reviews the last time it was an ending city.

Has anyone heard or read anything about potential host towns yet? Here are the towns that I know have applied to host: Missouri Valley, Denison, Tama/Toledo, Tipton, Maquoketa, Bellevue, Clinton, Davenport, Iowa City, Newton. Anything else to add?

The Sheriff of Cedar County seemed to be concerned about the 2018 route passing through his county according to the report in this thread. That would fit well with a route that included Iowa City and Davenport/Bellevue/Clinton. But of course that only tells us who has applied, not who was chosen….

Per the justgobike.net podcast 36, close to 200 towns expressed interest in hosting XLVI.

Ken Reed, December 21, 2017 at 10:44 am

200 towns may have expressed interest but (correct me if I’m wrong) RAGBRAI asks certain towns if they would be interested and sends them an application packet. That town’s city council and/or Chamber of Commerce then votes for or against applying.

A 110-mile Opening Day through the Loess Hills?

KenH, December 26, 2017 at 12:14 pm

Why not? I’ve heard that TJ plans to take no prisoners this year!

I have done 2 Ragbrai s and have done the century ride both times, in 2016 and 2017 and I am no athlete. Last year I did it with a sinus infection. I just get up early and tootle slowly down the road and I was able to make it both times before the 6 pm cut of services. My Jersey is my theme, slow and steady.

I’ve heard that West Branch thinks they are going to be on the route.

I read something yesterday from the Hotel and Visitor’s bureau in Grinnell. It stated that they had applied as well.

I always like going through Mount Vernon as they really seem to put on a good show, so it is somewhat amazing that they’ve only hosted an overnight once.
200 days and counting.

Found my note:
Ida Grove
Rockwell City
Eagle Grove
Iowa Falls

Now, don’t enter the contest with my predictions!! LOL

@Trykeman, January 2, 2018 at 4:22 pm

Amanda, does that mean a return to Potters Hill?
