2018 Guess the Route Contest Predictions

Its time to put in what our guesses are for the “Guess the Route” contest. Since this is not a RAGRBRAI ending in a 0 like the 40th, I think they’ll stick with the northern-central-southern route rotation making this year a central route. I’m working on mine. I think this year we’ll be enjoying some of the Iowa’s slightly larger cities. Starting in Council Bluffs, going through Ames and ending in Dubuque. Let’s start putting out our full route predictions we’ll actually enter the contest with!

I had been thinking Missouri Valley as the start for the longest time but I’m now leaning Onawa. It’s just a gut feeling.

Please, anywhere but Dubuque.

Okay, I’ll bite: what’s wrong with Dubuque?

I’ll venture guess that he’s afraid of Potter Hill.

I live two miles from there. Hardest part in 2010 was dodging all the walkers. Piece of cake.

Yeah, Potter Hill was a challenge. I’d say that of all the people going up that hill, about 75% of them were walking. It was pretty surreal to see that. I don’t see us going to Dubuque though but I could be wrong. If we go to Dubuque, there are many other roads that could lead us into town.

Unless things have changed, RAGBRAI will not be going through Crawford County. Think some may have forgotten..

John Richardson, January 25, 2018 at 9:43 am

Things have changed Cheri. RAGBRAI was only banished from Crawford County for one year.

Ken Reed, January 25, 2018 at 10:34 am

Denison applied. They also had a proclamation about welcoming RAGBRAI.

What happened in Crawford county?

I figured out what a few of the overnight towns are and which city is the last. I’ll give away the final town as sort of a route-buster clue. Hint: It’s across the river from Rock Island, IL. https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.rigov.org/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Agenda/_10162017-72%3Fpacket%3Dtrue&sa=U&ved=0ahUKEwiO1cSssfTYAhUq2IMKHfrNCWs4FBAWCCAwCA&usg=AOvVaw1tf5WmXklQRLzZnEMtNgL8

So, Davenport will be the end town for the third time in eight years? Anything’s possible, but I highly doubt it.

jwoodrum, January 25, 2018 at 7:46 pm

According to RI’s tourism brochure linked to above, the RAGBRAI staff are already committed to staying at the Holiday Inn the entire week. Seems like an odd place to stay if Davenport wasn’t the end city.

Leslee Hansen, January 25, 2018 at 8:13 pm

Bettendorf could be the ending town since it is also part of the Quad cites
