Adaptive Sports Iowa, a new program sponsored by the Iowa Sports Foundation is organizing the first ever Adaptive Ragbrai Team. We are seeking handcyclists and visually impaired/blind tandem riders to join us this summer 2011. I’ve always had deep respect for the physically challenged riders. My respect went up a notch this spring when I lost sight in my left eye. I didn’t ride much this year because of it. But I did ride RAGBRAI. Not having any vision on the left added a new twist to riding in traffic. But as your name implies. People do adapt. It just takes time and perseverance. My good eye will be looking for you out on the road.
I am considering towing a blind man who pedals a special-needs pedal trailer. He rode 2 or 3 consecutive days of this year’s ride. He is anxious to do the whole gig next year.
