Any tips on showers

First timer – Do they have shower trucks? Showers at the school? Do you have to pay? Any tips on beating the long lines?

Yes they have shower trucks and yes it’s pay as you shower!  Check out topic:  https://ragbrai.com/forums/topic/showers

I’ve heard of cow-tipping, but never shower tipping – that would be really disorienting to someone inside the shower!

Avoid the UniSex showers as the lines seem to move slower. While often times there are two to a stall it seems to take a lot more scrubbing as the folks that choose the UniSex showers must be extra “dirty”.

bring cash… last year showers were $5.00 and $6.00 if you needed a towel :)

Tip:  get wet first, then apply soap.

You’ve noticed that too? I thought that was just my imagination. ;)

Find a pool, it will probably cost the same as a shower and you can swim for a while too. Relaxing in the water feels great after a long day of biking!

Pools are great, just ignore the inch of skum floating on top!

There are shower trucks and many overnight towns have schools offering showers.  The showers at the pools are almost always cold water only.

I know Grinnell College is using their new athletic complex to offer showers for $4-$5.  Centrally located in Grinnell.  Nice facilities.

Some charters also provide a shower service.  I know mine has made arrangements for a shower truck for our group.  That makes it nice.  They also have a mid-week laundry service.  Washing your kit in the shower just doesn’t cut it.

Oooo la la. RAGBRAI in first class!

Last year one of my rinse off spots was Crystal lake (didn’t bother with soap)! I found other, probably cleaner, shower spots last year but it was by far my favorite!
The main campground will always have a shower truck/facility available. Grab the daily flier and it’ll mark all the spots on the map where showers are available.
