Well, if the ride were next week I would finish it somehow. I will be a lot more ready come the last week of July however!
My favored route would be the NW to SE diagonal route that I submitted as my official guess. Or one that hits the Mississippi early and has us overnighting in one or two Rriver towns. But they never choose my route. Failing that any route that takes me through Iowa towns I have never visited is a fine route for me and since I’ve visited so few that is pretty much a given for the next ten years or so! There is no bad way to ride through Iowa during RAGBRAI week!
Looking forward to it! It will be our 1st time doing RAGBRAI and my wife and I are very excited. Never been to Iowa so don’t much care where the route takes us as we know it will be FUN. Just coming off back surgery so I have 183 days to get back in shape. Will be watching the route announcement tomorrow.
You & your wife have the time of your life, Ron !
Don’t hurt yourself more during the recovery process. Take it easy in the beginning.
Thanks Ragbrai Nation and Trek 2300 for the good words. I am taking it easy and don’t expect to be back on the bike for another month or so. I understand this is supposedly the 3rd easiest route in Ragbrai history so that was actually good news for this rookie. We are excited! Can’t wait to meet all the good people of Ragbrai
Oh yeah, will be my 35 and finally getting into the last county on RAGBRAI. Allamakee! bonus both an overnight stop and ending town. It’s the last 2 days when the hills hit, so 5 days to ride into shape, unlike starting off on the Loess Hills.
I’m ready!!!
Of course a few things need to fall into place first but I’M READY!
anyhow ron, take it slow coming off that back surgery. i would do core work first, and ride sort rides for the first few weeks, and do some leg work with some sort of resistence. i have never done ragbrai either, but i ride a lot, and work out all the time. my problem is money and i have to work all the time. i work in sturgis, and it coninsides with our ralley., but i am gonna make it this year for a couple of days. anyhow, good luck to ya ron and ride safe!!!!!
P.P. let us know what days you’ll be riding. I’d like to meet you and buy you a beer of 3!!!
BTW RAGBRAI don’t care!!!
It’s our first Ragbrai. Ok so I thought it started at one end and ended at the other. Orange City is not on the Misouri River so what gives? I thought you were supposed to dip your wheel in the river. What am I missing?
thanks mich rider, it will be the first 3 days, and i’ll take you up on the 3 beers. i’ll need it. ha ha!!

hey rick, i am new to this as well. but as i understand it.It will be an easy route due to last years ride was hard. yes you are right, it is not close to the water. but it really don’t matter, or does it?
No prince, it could go in a circle for all I care. Regardless it will be fun. I was curious because it looked like past rides were end to end of the state starting at the river. Thought maybe I was missing something.
not to unusual to start away from the Missouri River. 3 times on the Big Sioux north of Sioux City, 9 times 10 – 15 miles in and probably 7-8 about 5 miles or more in and leave in the morning to the east.
