I saw a stat … 49.5 for men and 37.? for women.  The largest bracket was men 50 – 55.  I’m 50 and going strong.  Still racing Cat 4 and Cyclocross.  The 40+ and 50 race categories are tough.  Better to race against the young and dumb.

Often times the fastest races of the day. Focused. efficient trraining and uber smart with regards to tactics, knowing the courses and the competition. You gotta be fast and smart to hang with the Masters.

Started riding recreationally at age 50.  56 now, and on RAGBRAI #6.

So here is what I don’t get;  with the average age being what it is on RAGBRAI, why do they play music for “youngsters” in the beer gardens??  I don’t want to hear no Black Eyed Peas, or Pitbull, or whatever.

They already have us oldsters hooked, we’ll keep coming back, no matter what.  They need to pigue the youngsters interest to rope them in.

Besides, only Des Moines could afford to book the Stones.

Bummer to hear that the music is for the youth….now there is a great deal of good new music but I assume they dont play that. Oh well, I’ll just enjoy the beer!  1st timer/virgin coming in at 49. Ragbrai is on the list of things to get “under my belt” before 50.  Then I plan to hang on to these activities as long as I can. So you slightly older folks are my inspiration.

I’m funally above average in something! on shoot, this time maybe that’s not such a good thing. Grand Funk will be playing oldies, and I swear that one year I heard “Sweet Caroline” in every town one day and most of the towns on the others. Oh well, it was better that “Who let the dogs out” and “Macarana”

Did my first one to celebrate my 40th B-day with my brothers, who by then had had a number of RAGBRAI’s logged.  This will be my 15th time, YOU do the math!  :)

I’m a Ragbrai virgin….I really hope I don’t get out ridden, and out drank, by all these 40+’s.  Which one should I be training for more?

RR:  You won’t have to worry about that type of music coming out of the ‘Spooler’!  Rock and Roll is the only way to go!  Maybe a little Country Rock thrown in there too!

Jstarr, it’s really not a competition.  Nobody cares how fast or slowly you ride.  Nobody stands there in the overnight town with a stopwatch.
