RAGBRAI LI Route Announced on Jan. 27!

best decision I made on RAGBRAI 2017…..

was to get off the road after Protivin and take the shuttle bus (air conditioned!) to tour Norman Borlaug’s boyhood home. I had never heard of him before, even though he lived most of his later life and died here in Dallas.

And then recently I found this book at the library:
Most remarkable book of 2018…. I highly recommend to anyone interested in science, policy, or the human condition.

will there be something equivalent on RAGBRAI 2018?

Day 2, Coon Rapids, IA – Roswell Garst. He was an American farmer and seed company executive. He developed hybrid corn seed in 1930 that allowed greater crop yields than open-pollinated corn. He was perhaps most well known for hosting Nikita Khrushchev on his farm in Coon Rapids, Iowa, on September 23, 1959. He sold hybrid seed to the Soviet Union beginning in 1955 and played a role in improving US-Soviet communication.

Its on the National Register of Historic Places. Enjoy.

…was to take my Nikon D3000 camera with me. It’s lightweight and takes up very little room in my pannier, safely snuggled up next to a spare roll of TP. When I reached the Grotto of the Redemption in West Bend, I captured once-in-a-lifetime memories!

The camera will travel with me again this year. Who knows what’s around the next bend or over the next hill? If it’s memorable, breathtaking, or otherwise shouts out “this is Iowa”, I’ll be ready!

See you along the I-O-Way in July.

I was thinking about taking a shortcut out of Decorah, glad I did not because the views were outstanding. I know everybody has their own agenda on RAGBRAI but the people that were going fast missed a loton that route . Just my humble opinion.
