Best way to rent an RV?

Thinking about bringing friends and family, some of whom may become day riders, some just want to meet the good people of Iowa in 2016. Looking for input from others who rent RV’s for the ride. Do you rent it at home and drive it to Iowa or travel to Iowa and rent locally?

We rent and drive.
Depends on where you are coming from of course and how many are coming with you from that destination. We usually have 8 or so that drive out and meet the team in Iowa. Then we use it for support across the state and drive back when finished. We also try to rent from a person instead of a business. … Works out better that way.

Ref: rent from a person, how do you work out the insurance ? maintenance/breakdown issues ?
Businesses like RV America are really pricey.

Sounds like a great idea,

Insurance can be a problem, but the owner of the RV may have insurance that will cover or there are also several companies that do rental insurance separately for RV owners who rent which is what we did last year.
Your insurance company may also provide a rider? .. but that is a maybe.
The big RV renters are pricey and actually a real pain to deal with. Find a owner thru Craigs List or go to an RV storage park.. as they may be of help.
Break downs are covered thru the renter and they usually have a # to call if you have any problems. Also doesn’t hurt to have AAA just in case.

Thanks reddog1 for the info. Great ideas.
I’ve got a co-worker who choose to continue working to buy his RV rather than retire. It sets about 40.5 weeks a year. Now I need to get organized and come up with a plan.

Gee only 30 weeks to go. Better get training.
