What can a first timer expect when arriving at an overnight?
In particular I am wondering what it is like to pick up my bag and find a campsite.
How far will it be from the bag pickup to the campground? I know it will vary but what should I expect? Is it a walk across the street or should I expect a long hike? Over a mile?
Is there a bike corral or do you take your bike to your campsite? If there is a corral would it still be ok to take my bike to my campsite?
I like to travel with minimal gear, I hope to have everything in a backpack that I can wear and ride, in case I need to ride my bike from the bag pickup to the campsite. To clarify, I do not intend to ride from host town to host town wearing my backpack, just when getting around a host town.
Thanks for any input….

Sam, I have used the Ragbrai truck lots of times for Ragbrai. Make sure you have a good sturdy bag with some sort of bright marking on it to make it easier to find. Also sometimes there a bit rough on the bag when throwing your bag around. Make sure you pack it for rain. Your bag may sit out in the rain on a raining day while waiting for you to pick it up. As far as camping goes. It can be as close to the truck as you can get or as far away as you want. Some even sleep under it. It’s good to get your bag loaded on the truck early to avoid the lines, unless you like to sleep in until the last moment. They will blow a horn warning people they are going to leave soon. I’ve seen small bags al the way to hockey bags. They take it all. It’s just a matter of how much your willing to carry if you have have to camp any distance front he truck. As far as the kybo’s or porta johns go, if you don’t get up early you will have to wait in a long line. Have fun on Ragbrai, hope to see you there.
