Cedar Rapids police said an arrest warrant has been issued for the driver of a pickup truck in a deadly collision with a bicyclist during the summer.
Police charged Robert Fleming with failure to yield and no insurance in the July 29 crash that killed Susan DeSotel, of Cedar Rapids.
Two addresses are listed for Fleming in the police report, in Cedar Rapids and Alburnett, but police have not been able to find him.
Sgt. Mike Wallerstedt said police don’t know if he left town.

EAGLE, Colorado — A financial manager for wealthy clients will not face felony charges for a hit-and-run because it could jeopardize his job, prosecutors said Thursday.
Martin Joel Erzinger, 52, faces two misdemeanor traffic charges stemming from a July 3 incident when he allegedly hit bicyclist Dr. Steven Milo from behind then sped away, according to court documents.

That story makes me sick. Does this sound like justice? We all try to ride safely but it only takes one careless moment, by a motorist, for something like this to happen.
Agreed. The most disgusting thing about it is that they only charged the guy with a misdemeanor. Hit and run with serious bodily injury is supposed to be a class 5 felony in Colorado. Something stinks about this whole case.

DRIVER IN FATAL CRASH TURNS HIMSELF INRobert H. Fleming went to the City of Cedar Rapids police headquarters Thursday evening Nov. 11, 2010 to turn himself in, after an arrest warrant was issued for him, and police had been unable to locate him at his residence. Fleming was transported to the Linn County jail. The arrest warrant was for failure to yield and no insurance in the July 29, 2010 fatal crash at C Street and Wilson Avenue SW. Bicyclist Susan DeSotel was southbound on C Street SW, when Fleming turned his truck into her path.
Susan was thrown off her bike, hitting the truck and the pavement, leaving her with serious head injuries, although she was wearing a helmet. She died four days later. Susan was an avid bike rider and member of Hawkeye Bicycle Association.

About that case on Colorado, I guess if you’ve got the money, you think you can but your way out of anything.
“Erzinger has also told prosecutors he’s willing to pay a “significant amount of restitution,” Hurlbert said”

This guy is a real piece of work. While he doesn’t think nearly killing a cyclist and then leaving him for dead in the ditch is a felony, he does think that cheating in a mountain bike race is. He once also prosecuted a college student for throwing a snowball. This guy needs to go.
Another story avout whats happening in Colorado. Sure has been a bad year for Colorado in the cycling world with this and Black Hawk http://environment.change.org /blog/view/hitting_a_cyclist_might_not_matter_much_if_you_drive_a_mercedes
This is the one that drives me up the wall. Obviously it’s a nuisance, but it’s hurtful and obnoxious.

Nine dead in recent months in the Tampa – St Pete area. Ya gotta dress to be seen and as the little stoker always says…”if your ride at night, please use your light”.

RIDE RIGHT
Spent almost 10 minutes struggling through the comments about the above incident. Outside of the usual imbeciles who think that drivers rule because, well, they are driving
weaponsbig heavy cars, I am struck by the number of people who just plain don’t have a clue. For example, the suggestion that a cyclist should ride on the wrong side of the road *in opposition* to the traffic flow (supposedly so the cyclist can see the car coming in order to get out of its way) reared its outdated, feeble head yet again.Just what the helll are they teaching — not just in Florida or Colorado, but anywhere! — in driving courses these days???

Beebs: The Florida Bicycle Association came into being in 1997 in order
to, among other things, educate the public about cycling. As you have
observed, public schools, driver’s education, PSAs and organizations
such as the FBA have much more work ahead of them. Morons will simply
keep on being morons no matter how hard you work to educate them.

The comments to this article, especially the remarks from some doofus calling himself “Zack Tatum”, are almost worth the time it takes to read through them…..
