From the Marshalltown “Times-Republican” newspaper (added emphasis mine):
__________

Curt Ward, Marshalltown city attorney, also made some clarifications on the proposed ordinance for July’s RAGBRAI celebration.

“WHAT WE ARE SEEKING TO RESTRICT IS TEMPORARY OR OUTDOOR FACILITIES THAT ARE AIMED AT THE PROVIDING OF FOOD OR NON-ALCOHOL MERCHANDISE,” he said. “It doesn’t have the breadth of scope that some have feared. WE ARE SIMPLY TRYING TO COMPLY WITH STATE LAW WHICH REQUIRES THAT WHEN YOU SELL FOOD TO THE PUBLIC, YOU HAVE TO UNDERGO SOME REGULATION,”

Randy Wetmore, Marshalltown city administrator, said the ordinance is the same one used in 2004, so it’s nothing new.

Shannon Espenscheid, Marshall County Visitors Bureau director, said THE CITY IS SIMPLY FOLLOWING RAGBRAI’S ADVICE. PEOPLE NEED TO BE LICENSED AND INSPECTED, she added, so vendors need to make sure they have all their paperwork filled out.

“I assure you we will have adequate a number of vendors per the amount of riders and everyone will be able to eat,” she said.

Mike Tupper, Marshalltown police chief, said he is looking forward to RAGBRAI, but that it also presents challenges for public safety.

He said he is recommending that the ordinance be approved.

“I think the ordinance will allow us an opportunity, from a public safety standpoint, to have some control over where everybody is going to be,” he said. “If we can keep everybody and the major activities in a central location, that is going to make it much easier for the public safety folks to provide services.”

The council approved the first reading, but still has two more readings before the ordinance will be adopted.
______________

And so it starts.

surprised to see 7-8 miles on a pretty busy Highway 69 from Jewell. From Jewell I would have gone east to Ellsworth then down R61 to Randall then Story City.

Story County repairing, (filling cracks) of about 3-4 miles of E-18 from I-35 to Roland at $2,856 per mile. Also that day we just miss crossing a creek that probably will get censored here, Long D!ck Creek joins the Skunk River just above E-18. Now I wonder, who ever came up with the name for that one?
