65 seems a little long for the last day, the pass through towns last day don’t seem to set up much beacause a lot of people don’t stop trying to get in early, the places that do have loong lines.

When I rode in to Davenport in ’82 all I can remember is that I had to compete with the local traffic, which I didn’t like. I don’t remember any help from the law enforcement to make it easy for the riders.
gee, drifted all the back to page 4 in a week. So it looks like Tony may have nailed it with his map.
Like I said earlier, I think Tony has the last day pretty close, but I expect Ragbrai will not leave IC on US6, instead it will take sand road to F62, then F62 to West Liberty. From WL to Wilton the ride will mot likely take US6.
oops, I tried to edit my post because I wanted to correct a spelling error, instead of hitting the edit button I hit quote.
Well according to a local small town noospaper Walcott will be the last pass thru town so taking US6 will probably happen. After leaving Walcott is when the fun begins. Just for the sake of arguement and fighting as little traffic as possible how about south on Y40 then east on Locust, F65, and then south on110th Ave ,Y48, to US61. Traffic light here to control traffic onto US61 and then block off one lane of 61 into Davenport. They’ve blocked off lanes before on RAGBRAI-US6 into Waukee. Any other route thru Davenport will have heavy traffic not be very ‘scenic’.
JK it is the Chief of Police’s decision on the route through town. With the Bix going on at the same time. I would think managing manpower for the intersections will play apart. I’m pretty sure Credit Island is out now. Most likely route is Locust to Waverly/Lincoln or Lincoln to 3rd to Marquette. It has the least traffic management and flow on Saturdays. The Locust corridor has the new divided road. The city is promoting that end of town for home construction. Allot of nice homes going up. Goes past Emeis Park, West High School, and the Fair Grounds. All a nice looking area of town. With plenty of parking for people to watch the riders come in. If they come on Hy 61 its through an industrial park. Not much to show off there. Again its up to the Chief.
Tony, usually Locust St., even with what I consider to be very danergous center islands, would be the way to come in from the west but Locust is pretty much the only way for the people living south of Locust to get around. I’ve ridden the Duck Creek path, Emeis Park, Waverly Road, 3rd St to Marquette and along the river bike path and back to Bettendorf many times and is a great route for single rider or a very small group but think of the traffic disruption and if you’ve ever been stopped for those ABATE toy drive rides it gets very frustrating sitting at a traffic light waiting as 1000-1500 motorcycles to go by, think of having to watch 20000 bicycles go by. It will be interesting to see what parts of Davenport the city leaders will want to show off, and how they will decide-will they contact the QCBC for input? and how much are they willing to spent patching roads/streets fo make it safe.
like papa T says,,,
Wow … I’m surprised they’re bringing us into D’port on HWY61 for the last 5 miles.
Guessed it right, hwy61 into Davenport. When you think about getting upwards to 20,000 bicycles thru Davenport to the river that is pretty much the easiest route. Easiest and safest while definite not the most scenic. And they have blocked off lanes on 4 lane highways before so it can work. And just think of that nice downhill coming into to town after stopping at Blueport Junction for a brew.
Iowa City: Anybody familar with the route on the east side of the Iowa? and HWY 6 coming into IC should be fun
Well my guess was partially right. I didn’t think we would go to West Branch. Anyhooo it will be a nice ride into town. Everyone make sure to stop in Wilton and see George and Thelma at the Candy Kitchen. It will make a nice halfway point stop.
HY61 / Y48 and HY61 / I280 intersections will be manned for traffic control. The DOT will reduce the speed on HY61 both direstions. East bound HY61 will be coned off to one lane from Y48 to Marquette St. Blue Port Junction will be the last bar on the route. Blue Port is on the right side of the road just after the I280 intersection. There will is a nice down hill right after the bar.
Credit Island will be used for camping. There is still discussions about using it as a second dip site. Marquette landing is the official dip site. More information to follow on the dip site.
Long term parking is still being worked on. But it looks like the fairgrounds south parking lot if the fairgrounds approves it.
