RAGBRAI LI July 20 -27, 2024

Did you ride today?

I did.

57 miles (OK, they were all flat miles on a five-mile loop) in 30-some degree weather to celebrate today being the conclusion of my 57th trip around the sun.

runtster57 said: Thanks for all the advice on keeping the “dogs” from freezing. My shoe covers are a tight fit over my summer road shoes. Maybe I need to go a size up. Michrider, Do you put the warmers directly on the toe area or inside your shoe cover next to your ankle? CR, My core stays plenty warm. At times a trickle of sweat down my back and cold toes! 35 hilly miles yesterday with another 50 planned for today. Love these 50 degree high temps but I’m ready for summer and Ragbrai to get here!!

I put toe warmers under my toes. They have an adhesive side to hole them in place. When it’s really cold (under 30) I avoid working up a sweat. If you get wet, you’ll get cold! Check out this ice bike site, http://www.icebike.org/

Great link! Thanks! I did get my 50 in today. It seemed like a loooong ride. Didn’t have the shitzpah in my legs that I had yesterday.

I rode 20 yesterday.  The weather was great, 55 deg and sunny.  I’ll take that any day in January.  Lefty (knee) felt good.  I’m getting treatments to get it ready for July!

Got 20 miles, but didn’t I was going to make it home.  The wind came up here in sw ia and I couldn’t hardly stay on the road, luckly only had 2 miles to go.  One weather man said gust up to 48mph.

Sounds like 2009 East to West trip to Council Bluffs for the start. Headwind got worse every day! It was a bear! I once saw a T-shirt on Ragbrai with the quote “the wind doesn’t blow, it sucks!!! ” Unless it’s at your back!!

I am VERY impressed with Cycling Roberto’s commitment to riding.  If you post that you rode today (given the near blizzard like conditions in Iowa)  I would be even more amazed. Keep it up. You are my idol.

I’ve been swimming during the snow and ice.  I have a trainer – but for some reason, I just don’t use it.  I should.

The next above 30 degree day that has clear pavement will see me putting in 20 miles.

No Damnit. Pulled my velomobile out of the garage to ride and found I had another flat. 3rd flat in 3 days on the right front. Drove to the bike shop to buy some Marathon Plus tires to replace the thin racing tires that I had on it.

Riding tomorrow.
