RAGBRAI LI Registration is Now Open!

Did you ride today?

I just checked the Iowa weather and I’m glad I live in Kentucky!  It was 70 degrees here this morning when I rode, with winds from the South at 16-22 MPH, gusting to 30.  It was fun riding that wind at my back!

Did a quick 15 miler today before work, mid sixties and sunny with just a little wind on the way back.  Planning on doing a century in another week to help a friend train for some nutty 100 miles on gravel race in MN.  Probably should have started early and quadrippled the distance.

41 miles, 3100 feet of climb, tough miles.  I figure it was like 80 road miles, effort wise, with the rocks, sand, crumbling black top, and washboard roads.  There’s about 4 miles of good black top, 1 up hill, 1 down hill, 2 level.  Iced the knees.  Now I’m getting ready to mix up some pain killer, rum and cola.

47 miles last night.  We had 214 riders pedal the Boston Marathon course @ midnight.  We had all kinds of weather.  Beautiful upper 40s to sleet and rain mix.  No wind.  Much fun.

Keep noticing all the talk about WIND!  Has been a windy spring here as well (NE KY).

On a recent ride (on a long climb), my friend said he believes that there has been more WIND during the past couple years.  I said, “more wind maybe, but there has been more GRAVITY for sure”!   UUGGH!!

I rode Saturday 4-16-11 on the Des Moines mayor’s ride for Trails 20 miles with winds gusting up to 39 mph. I then did 31 miles on Tuesday 4-18-11with 3-11 mph wind from the east. I’m mostly worn out.

Living in Honolulu riding daily isn’t a problem. The worst we get is wet. I’ve been a daily commuter for the last 3 years and have ridden centuries (regular and metric) but am only now getting serious about adding miles and hills.

I’ve gotten in about 330 miles in the last three weeks. The biggest chunk was last Saturday when I rode 75 miles, but only about 1300 feet of elevation gain. A quarter of that did come over just 1.25 miles though (spin, spin, spin).

We either have really big hills here (going up the mountains) or it’s flat (by the shore).
Aloha!

25 miles, 2000 feet of climb, rocks, sand, no snakes, the restraining order must be working.
