Do people stay in Clinton Saturday night?

I’m curious if we land in Clinton and a lot of people stay for the day and overnight? Is there a a big party or anything? Or do most people scram back home that afternoon?

Most scram and head home. I don’t know how many actually stay overnight. I never have. The last town usually does have bands playing during the day as people arrive, but I don’t think there is usually evening entertainment lined up like in other overnight towns.

From my experience, things basically end after lunch on day 7. By dinner time, it is almost like RAGBRAI never happened. The end town does provide overnight camping, and a small handful stay overnight, but we are probably talking 5-10 people.
Maybe things will be a little different this time around, but I would not expect anything other than a wheel dip photo opportunity on the last day.
With that said, I’ll likely be staying overnight in or around Clinton, and riding the ~125 miles to Mt Pleasant to pick up the AMTRAK. Looks like The Great River Trail takes me a good chunk of the way.

Good afternoon, Anna628!!

While I can’t speak for other riders, I do want to share my thoughts in answer to your highly relevant question.

After a week of enjoying the rolling scenery and tropical temperatures of end-of-July in Iowa, I am exhausted on the last day. Mrs Woo, my support driver, is all shopped out (believe it or not)! We make our way to the Davenport/LeClaire area, as I-80 is our gateway to heading home. We find a motel, clean up to the point of looking respectable again and then go out for a nice Iowa dinner. The Iowa Machine Shed is a favorite restaurant of ours. 😋. Then we stroll along the river walk, taking in the sights. We have discovered shops that sell wine, ice cream, popcorn (naturally), candy and other neat stuff. After a good night’s sleep, we leave for the 1300 mile trip home.

This year, we’ll probably spend the afternoon exploring the sights of the Clinton area and then relax in the evening, enjoying the wine and live entertainment at the Wide River Winery there.

Whether you leave for home that same day or stay overnight depends on how tired you are and how far you have to drive home. Just remember, it’s YOUR vacation. Enjoy it in the manner you want!

See you along the I-O-Way NEXT MONTH!

What a sweet answer! We’ll see how it all shakes out – in the mean time, we’ll plan for a little longer trip home if we’re so inclined. Thank you!

Hi Anna628,
I stayed overnight after the 2019 Ragbrai. I never felt so alone. I hung out with my charter for a while but didn’t see many of the new friends I’d met. I just saw people leaving me behind. Later there were a few small clusters of campers, but I didn’t want to intrude.
It sounds like you are going with a friend, so it should be fun. There were showers available at the YMCA, so look for notices. There was plenty of room at the local restaurant, so it did look like the locals were back to their usual routine. Having a friend or two should make all the difference. I hope you enjoy it.

Thanks for that – My husband is joining me for the last ride, and we weren’t sure if staying in Clinton Saturday night was a thing people did. If it’s not a thing I’d be sad to miss out on, I’m sure I’ll be happy to get home that night! Thanks for the info!
